Rest.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean
not on your own understanding — Proverbs 3:5–6
In a world obsessed with control,
performance, metrics, validation, and self-made success, trusting God—His
timing, provision, and plan—is a abnormal! Rest comes not by doing more but by
letting go and relying on God.
Being in motion is not the issue. But what is the intention behind it? That
business idea, that social media influence you desire to start, that service
you are doing in church—whatever it may be—is not as important as rest.
I am not talking about the type of rest where you sit on the couch,
watch Netflix, and eat your favourite pizza, even though that kind of rest has
its place. We live in a generation running like headless chickens—with no
direction, striving, tired, burdened, filled with anxiety, carrying unhealed
trauma, desperate to “make it,” yet missing the true understanding of what it
means to make it.
Being financially free is one thing, and there is nothing wrong with
it—but for what, and for who? Is it beyond you? Does it benefit anyone, or is
it self-centred? To truly make it is to know Jesus Christ as you come to know
yourself through Him. It is found in the friendship He offers.
As you rest in Him, seek Him, speak to Him, and meditate on Him,
something begins to change. Your mind, heart, body, and spirit are transformed.
There is a shift that comes from being with Jesus—a peace you cannot produce
yourself—and a trust that begins to grow, a trust that knows God will provide,
God will lead you into your purpose, and God will protect you all your life.
In today’s generation, trust has been lost. People take matters into
their own hands, trying to build a life not founded on Jesus Christ. This is
why there is so much greed in many souls. They are never satisfied. Greed is
often disguised as the pursuit of success, but it is only chasing the wind,
leading nowhere. Greed is endless and never closes, which is why no amount of
success brings rest. modern
culture trains the brain to chase dopamine—anticipation without satisfaction—so
the more we strive for success, money, and validation, the less rest we feel.
This is why achievement without meaning never satisfies and greed is never full
(Berridge & Robinson 1998).
True rest has nothing to do with achievement. The only rest our minds,
souls, bodies, and spirits will ever find is in being a friend of Jesus Christ.
When your rest is rooted and grounded in the Lord Jesus Christ, there is a deep
assurance within your spirit: He will provide, He will never leave you, and He
will never forsake you. Everything else will be added.
So, I speak to you. If you have been carrying weight on your
shoulders—striving, chasing, pursuing money—pause for a moment and ask
yourself: who is your true God? Is your pursuit driven by greed, or does it
flow from resting in the God who already has it all?
When you rest in your Saviour Jesus, you no longer need to strive in
things without meaning or legacy. The only legacy that will be passed down
through generations is the purpose you walk in through Jesus and the personal
friendship you have with Him, which sets an example for others.
May this call you to rest.
